Tonopah 03:08
Tonopah Tonopah where my people once lived I’ve got to get back to Tonopah try myself to forgive My family and the law got along just like cats and dogs Since I can remember Even when Grandpa was a pup Wild is how we grew up Tonopah When we were on the run from Daddy We learned how to disappear Gunning it into darkness And we never stayed (anywhere) for long Because he would always track us Tonopah, Tonopah where my people once lived I’ve got to get back to Tonopah try myself to forgive When Daddy got a shiv in the gullet No one was much surprised Only that it took so long I always thought it’d be a bullet Because that‘s the way he lived Tonopah I’ve been in scrapes I never needed to be in And not all of us survived And I think about that sometimes I never meant to hurt someone Tonopah Tonopah where my people once lived I’ve got to get back to Tonopah try myself to forgive

Salt Tracks 03:12
Why stand over there Will you never cry There’s no reason why my shoulder should be dry Salt tracks down you face Tastes like all not well It’s your season in hell I once saw a thing That was brighter than any scene I could ever sing You could say that it was made of glass But something that beautiful Could never crash Light glanced off a strand Might take more than one Broad leaf catch the sun And stretch out in the sand I was once witness to a scene That made the heavens ring You could say that it was in the past But something that beautiful Will forever last I once saw a thing That was brighter than any scene I could ever sing You could say that it was made of glass But something that beautiful will never crash

Old Hometown 03:17
Do you still crave my attention when I’m gone Wish you were with me on this train Miss my cup of coffee Hometown metal rooftop in the rain Old hometown And how it makes you feel Old hometown Another turn around the wheel Old hometown It’s such a lonely sound Like no other town I’ve found I can’t believe that you’re no longer mine Miss you so bad when it’s storming like this outside But no matter what the tempest brings I’ll be there in winter and all springs Old hometown And how it makes you feel Old hometown Another turn around the wheel Old hometown It’s such a lonely sound Like no other town I’ve found In the sky where nothing’s unrelated Like the sea by moon gets dilated And my love for you it still grows unabated

Sycamore 05:07
I wonder about what you’re thinking And what you’re next going to say And I wonder if you wonder what I’m thinking of If so I’m drifting away A world of surprise it awaits you Because you’re still wondering why Your future is something that’s already been And your past but a gleam in your eye Sycamore, Sycamore, Sycamore I wonder Heaven’s big arms are surrounding It’s a well that never runs dry What will you find when you’re drifting on by When colors and sound do collide Sycamore, Sycamore, Sycamore I wonder Picked yourself up by your shoestrings Let in some rays from a sun The one in the sky That when it drifted on by Whispered that you were alright What’s going to happen past midnight When meaning has melted away There’s you and there’s me And we’re under this tree And we’re here with stars in our eyes Sycamore, Sycamore, Sycamore I wonder

Tumbleweed 03:59
It’s been a long hot summer and the hills are dry The sun glows down no shade to hide Pull up roots and blow away Roll across you’re 88 I’m a tumbleweed baby all hot and dry Thirsty for something that I know you’ll provide I’m a tumbleweed baby rolling in your lane Let’s pull over and take a break Pull up stakes and roll away Call into work with pains and aches Windows down foot on the floor Towns cycle by but we’re still out for more Signpost say, “Baby, Danger Zone” Better call a preacher get him on the phone I’m a tumbleweed baby all hot and dry Thirsty for something that I know you’ll provide I’m a tumbleweed baby rolling in your lane Let’s pull over and take a break Get out to the desert we’ll up and drive Remind each other that we’re still alive Put it gear and make for the wilderness All I want is your little tenderness We’re out here and you’re so fine Let’s get together let’s quit wasting time I’m a tumbleweed baby all hot and dry Thirsty for something that I know you’ll provide I’m a tumbleweed baby rolling in your lane Let’s pull over and take a break

Iceman 04:13
Venus is waiting in the wings now For another opportunity with Mars She incensed him by calling him a stagehand Under the stars If I was a forty thousand-year-old iceman And I saw you come walking off a plane I would definitely ask you out to dinner How’s later tonight Later tonight it’s a wild place With its own color and taste Later tonight has a mind of its own And no direction home If I was a forty thousand-year-old iceman Stranded in a chunk of permafrost And I saw you walking around the airport I’d come back to life And of all the million ways to miss you And of all the times I’ve heard us say goodbye To see you finally and to kiss you Later tonight Later tonight it’s a wild place With its own color and taste Later tonight has a mind of its own And no direction home

You’re gonna do whatever you’re going to do And there’s nothing I could ever say to you That would shake you into being someone new You’re going to do whatever you’re going to do But those demons are eating you alive They’re running the show testing the waters To see who’ll survive What you need is a little shuteye Get your Baby to sing a lullaby You’re going to do whatever you’re going to do You’re gonna do whatever you’re going to do And there’s nothing I could ever say to you That would shake you into being someone new You’re going to do whatever you’re going to do In your hand a beer can always a find a friend And some of his friends too and now we’re up around the bend Down the garden path we’ll go And soon we’re in the ice and snow You’re going to do whatever you’re going to do You’re gonna do whatever you’re going to do And there’s nothing I could ever say to you That would shake you into being someone new You’re going to do whatever you’re going to do But those demons are eating you alive They’re running the show testing the waters To see who’ll survive They’ve got you dancing on the end of a string When you should be a bird on a wing You’re gonna do whatever you’re gonna to do You’re gonna do whatever you’re gonna to do

Would you cast me out Wonderful, wonderful place this is For all we know we’ll start again Me and my lucky friends We’re already in heaven You can count me out on principle And possible future plans We’re already in heaven This view is un-comparable I can know myself And hold things too If there’s something after this Let’s hope that we’ll stay right here There’s no better place than this Let’s hope that we’ll stay right here We’re already in heaven

Kickapoo Trail Kickapoo Trail There’s a boulder down on Kickapoo trail Trapped me under a flood Me and my dog Blue were walking on through Through the shortcut to The shortcut to Kickapoo trail My dog blue he took the shortcut through And I followed him into a cut But the sky turned ugly purple and black And the rains came down The rains came down in a flood See, I’d followed him into a wash creek-bed Just as the heavens opened down All its waters down on the ground On the hills above Yes the waters came down in a flood Blue scrambled up the canyon wall But I couldn’t fight the water It was knocking me down in the wash In the water down in the wash Down on the Kickapoo Trail Just then a king-sized boulder came tumbling through And it trapped my leg strong and true While thunder threw bolts of lightening Down on the ground Down on the Kickapoo Trail And old Blue ran up he got to the road And he flagged down a trucker with a heavy load And they used that truck to drag me out of the water But I left my leg there under the water Down on the Kickapoo Trail Now I know I know about you I know about you Kickapoo Kickapoo And your rising waters And your boulders too And your rising waters Kickapoo trail Kickapoo Trail

Truth is a lonely bird With a sense of direction Sometimes she stays up all night Up in the sunroom She shares with her foundling Sometimes they stay up all night How did you happen by Of all the once in a lifetimes When I look at you I see myself in a long time Wandered in from yesterday And looked all around here Something’s changed The streets are deserted now Why are you hiding You’ve pulled away The sun beams down on the road Horizons shimmering When I look at you I see myself in a long time When are you going to say I’ll stay here forever Waiting here all night The glass is almost empty now Let’s push back the sunlight One more day Tell the morning birds, “Go away and quit your singing” When I look at you I see myself in a long time
